Employers must update job descriptions to attract the right talent

Many job descriptions still frame the PM role as it looked ten years ago, focusing heavily on documentation and scheduling. This outdated framing signals the wrong expectations and drives away the strongest candidates. To attract modern IT PMs, companies must highlight qualities like data fluency, systems thinking, real-time decision making, comfort with AI enabled tools, and the ability to manage complexity at scale. These are the qualities that signal the organization understands the true scope of the role. 

Modern IT projects require clarity, technical understanding, and a proactive mindset. Hiring teams that recognize how the role has evolved will attract project managers who can guide decisions, and keep teams aligned.
